MOLLY MUNGER DISCUSSES “OUR CHILDREN, OUR FUTURE” (OCOF) NOVEMBER BALLOT MEASURE WITH TOWN HALL LOS ANGELES

Los Angeles, CA – Thursday, June 28, 2012 – “Our Children, Our Future: The Critical Education Funding Decision on the November Ballot” will be discussed by Molly Munger, OCOF education initiative sponsor. Munger will offer a comparative view of OCOF, an income tax initiative, with the sales tax plan proposed by California Governor Jerry Brown, at Town Hall Los Angeles on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at City National Plaza in downtown Los Angeles.

“Parents are tired of seeing overcrowded classrooms and cuts to valuable programs like music and art,” said Munger, co-founder and director of the Advancement Project. ”The OCOF initiative will bypass Sacramento and send critically needed funds directly to local schools, so parents, principals and teachers can make the decisions about how to spend our education dollars. It’s time to turn our schools around, so that California students receive the education and skills they need to succeed.”

California currently ranks 47 out of 50 states in per pupil public education spending. During the past three years, approximately $20 billion has been cut from the state’s schools. OCOF is intended to raise over $10 billion in new dedicated funding.

Munger’s education efforts have included the expansion and improvement of early childhood education, a focus on statewide preschool space shortfalls and new school construction in Los Angeles.
