LA DEPARTMENT OF WATER AND POWER CEO TO ADDRESS TOWN HALL LOS ANGELES

David Nahai, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power speaks with TOWN HALL Los Angeles on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel. Nahai???s keynote address is ???LADWP: An Environmental Transformation. Angelenos have the opportunity to ask about the future of DWP.

 

On increasing sustainable energy use, Nahai said, "I see the bright promise of greening this utility . . . and having Los Angeles become the center, and the leader, for renewable energy." Since 2005, the DWP has nearly tripled its renewable energy portfolio. The agency???s goal is to increase their renewable energy use to 20 percent by 2010.

 

The LADWP is the largest municipal utility in the nation, serving 4 million people. The agency is currently planning a rate restructuring, and expanding their reliance on alternative energy sources.

 

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa nominated Nahai as General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power in October 2007. He was appointed by the Board of Water and Power Commissioners, and confirmed by the City Council. Nahai took office on December 1, 2007. Previously he served as one of the Commissioners and as Commission President. He also spent over a decade on the Water Quality Control Board.
