On the future of Asia, Schieffer says, "Today, the three largest economies in the world are intertwined in Asia. The six largest militaries in the world touch in Asia. Fifty-five percent of the world's population lives in Asia. The great issues of our day- terrorism, non-proliferation, poverty, energy and the environment are paramount in Asia. And the universal values of freedom, democracy and free markets are increasingly being sought by Asians as the pathways to Asia's future peace and prosperity. By any measure, Asia is on the rise and the roles America and Japan will play in Asia's future will be crucial."
