Los Angeles, CA ??" Friday, September 28, 2007 ??" TOWN HALL LOS ANGELES proudly continues its Finance & Economy and Writers Bloc Series this fall with Janet Yellen, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco on Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel; and Ursula Hegi in conversation with Susan Straight at the Fine Arts Theatre on Wednesday, October 10, 2007.

 

Earlier this year, TOWN HALL welcomed Chairman Christopher Cox who called for ???Integrity in Municipal Markets, and Comptroller General David Walker on his Fiscal Wake-up Tour. Picking up where the comptroller left off, Janet Yellen will address the state of the US dollar and the direction of economic policy. Speaking recently, Yellen said, ???From my perspective as a monetary policymaker, I would say that, in these circumstances, with heightened risks to both growth and inflation, the best course for policy is watchful waiting.

 

Yellen has held her position since June 14, 2004. She participates in meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee where she brings her district???s perspective to policy discussion in Washington. She is also a Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley.

 

TOWN HALL???s Writers Bloc presents Ursula Hegi talking about her latest work ???The Worst Thing I???ve Done. Hegi came to be known by the literati through her best-selling novel ???Stones from the River. This latest work, about friendship, love, and marriage, is a voyage of self-discovery, resilience, and understanding. Author Susan Straight is best known for her works ???The Getting Place??? and ???I Been in Sorrow's Kitchen and Licked Out All the Pots. Both women write about class, gender and familial relationships in American society. Hegi will sign books after the program.

 

Hegi is the author of ???Sacred Time, ???Hotel of the Saints, ???The Vision of Emma Blau, ???Tearing the Silence, ???Salt Dancers, ???Floating in My Mother's Palm, ???Unearned Pleasures and Other Stories, ???Intrusions, and ???Trudi & Pia.
