TOWN HALL URGES COMMUNITY NOT TO MISS FISCAL WAKE-UP TOUR IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Los Angeles, CA ??" Tuesday, September 4, 2007 ??" TOWN HALL LOS ANGELES hosts the Fiscal Wake-Up Tour on its Southern California leg, Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at the Millennium Biltmore in Los Angeles and the Atrium Hotel in Irvine. Taxpayers have the opportunity to voice their concerns about the growing US debt, market meltdowns, and the progress of the war in Iraq.

 

Keynote speaker, Comptroller General David Walker, of the US Government Accountability Office recently warned, ???Our long-term fiscal outlook is both imprudent and unsustainable. Improvements in information and processes are needed and can help. Meeting our long-term fiscal challenge will require tough choices, bi-partisan cooperation and compromise. The time for action is now! 

 

Program panelists include Robert L. Bixby, Executive Director, The Concord Coalition; Alison Acosta Fraser, Director, Thomas A. Roe Institute for Economic Policy Studies, The Heritage Foundation; Isabel V. Sawhill, Senior Fellow, Center on Children and Families, The Brookings Institution.

 

The Fiscal Wake-Up Tour is a joint public engagement initiative by The Concord Coalition, the Budgeting for National Priorities Project at The Brookings Institution and The Heritage Foundation. The purpose of the Tour is to explain why budget analysts of diverse perspectives are increasingly alarmed by the nation's long-term fiscal outlook.

 

Throughout its history, TOWN HALL has hosted discussions on the nation???s economy. Speakers have included Nobel prize-winning economist, Joseph Stiglitz and three chairmen of the SEC. Recently, the current SEC Chairman - Christopher Cox - addressed ???Integrity in Municipal Markets.???
