TOWN HALL LOS ANGELES CELEBRATES 70 YEARS OF INFORMING THE PUBLIC

 

Los Angeles, CA ??" Wednesday, April 25, 2007 ??" Town Hall Los Angeles celebrates its 70th Anniversary as the leading speaker???s forum and venue for civic issues in the city. Town Hall welcomes the public to learn more about this historic organization by visiting its booth (#703) at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, April 28-29, 2007 on the UCLA campus.

 

Town Hall brings its Author Series to the festival with book signings. Michael Weinstein, author of ???With God on our Side: One Man???s War Against an Evangelical Coup in America???s Military, wrote an article addressing the military???s religious stance. In it he remarks, ???How tragic that, at a time when the world seems to be on the verge of explosion because of religious intolerance, the United States Air Force???chooses to turn an unconstitutional blind eye to the religious intolerance within its very own ranks. Weinstein will sign copies of his book both days from 12:30-3:00PM.

 

Amy Stewart, author of the best seller, ???Flower Confidential: The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful in the Business of Flowers will be available from 11:00AM??"12:00PM on Saturday. Readers will learn about new technologies and globalization behind the $40 billion flower business.

 

Town Hall Los Angeles never pays an honorarium. In 70 years, Town Hall has held 4500 programs with memorable speeches from 127 Ambassadors, 65 Governors, 50 US Senators, 26 Attorneys General, 22 Mayors, 19 Judges, 17 Presidents, 7 Nobel Prize winners, 5 Rabbis, 4 Astronauts, 2 Queens and 1 Dominican Monk. Some notable authors who spoke at Town Hall are Ray Bradbury, Carl Sagan, and Gore Vidal. Since its 2006 inception, the Author Series hosted writers Eric Klinenberg, Scott Ritter, Lynn Sherr, Peter Stone, and General Anthony Zinni.
