GENERAL ANTHONY ZINNI CONVERSES WITH MARJORIE MILLER AND TOWN HALL LOS ANGELES

Friday, April 14, 2006, General Anthony Zinni, former Commander in Chief of the US Central Command, converses with Los Angeles Times Foreign Editor Marjorie Miller and Town Hall Los Angeles. Zinni will discuss his latest book, The Battle for Peace: A Frontline Vision of America's Power and Purpose, which outlines a strategy to repair America???s international relations and improve Washington???s response to domestic and foreign crises. Zinni???s visit with Town Hall is of particular interest as the nation becomes increasingly anxious about the war effort and its aftermath in Iraq.

One of the earliest critics of the rationale for and execution of the Iraqi War, Zinni wrote in his 2004 book Battle Ready, ???In the lead-up to the Iraq war and its later conduct, I saw at a minimum true dereliction, negligence, and irresponsibility; at worst, lying, incompetence, and corruption.

From 1997 until 2000, Zinni was Commander in Chief of the US Central Command. He retired as a four-star general after 39 years of service in the US Marine Corps. General Zinni???s numerous decorations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Superior Service Medal, a Purple Heart, and Bronze Star Medal with Combat ???V and gold star.

Marjorie Miller became the Los Angeles Times Foreign Editor in 2002. She is the recipient of an Inter American Press Association award for a two-part series on Nicaragua???s Sandanista party.
