KANSAS GOVERNOR KATHLEEN SEBELIUS ADDRESSES TOWN HALL LOS ANGELES

Wednesday, April 12, 2006, Kathleen Sebelius, Democratic Governor of Kansas, speaks with Town Hall Los Angeles at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel in downtown. Sebelius address, ???Doing Right for a Change, American Governors Step-up, is of particular interest to Californians who are gearing-up for their next gubernatorial race. In 2005, Kathleen Sebelius was named by TIME as one of America???s top five governors.

On January 9, 2006, Governor Sebelius delivered her fourth State of the State address, declaring, ???Hope has returned to the heartland.????? In the same address, Sebelius unveiled four new initiatives: A Tax Cut for Business; Health Coverage for All Children 5 and Under; Kansas Mentors Program; and Electronic Tracking of Sex Offenders.?

In a state where Republicans outnumber Democrats almost two to one, Sebelius victory in 2002 surprised political experts. Sebelius conquered the $1.1 billion deficit and balanced Kansas budget during her first year in office. Since then, Kansas has experienced 21 straight months of job growth, and more Kansans are employed today than at any other time in the state???s history.

Kathleen Sebelius was sworn in as the 44th Governor of Kansas in 2003. She is Chair of the Governor???s Ethanol Coalition and Chair-elect of the Education Commission of the States.?? Prior to being elected governor, Sebelius served four terms in the Kansas House of Representatives and two terms as the state???s Insurance Commissioner.?? She comes to Town Hall during a time of increased national visibility and prior to her own gubernatorial race this November.
