WATER IS SERIOUS BUSINESS - METROPOLITAN WATER DISTRICT GENERAL MANAGER, JEFFREY KIGHTLINGER, ADDRESSES CRITICAL STATE ISSUE, SEPT 22, 2014 AT TOWN HALL L.A.

Los Angeles, CA – “Water is Serious Business” is the topic of a speech to be given by the Metropolitan Water District’s Southern California General Manager Jeffrey Kightlinger, to Town Hall Los Angeles on Monday, September 22, 2014, at City Club Los Angeles. Angelenos are invited to join in a frank discussion on this statewide emergency.

With California in the throes of unprecedented drought - one of the worst in recorded history – and groundwater aquifers reaching historic lows, Gov. Brown signed on Tuesday the landmark  groundwater pumping measure described as the most important California water law in 50 years.

What are the required investments still needed? What level of taxpayer dollar spending support is there? And what is Metropolitan doing to adapt to the immediate situation as well as long-term planning? Earlier this year Metropolitan doubled its annual conservation and outreach budget from $20 million to $40 million.

The largest drinking water agency in the world, Metropolitan delivers water to its 19 million customers, treating the water with state-of-the-art purification technology at five treatment plants, four of which are among the 10 largest treatment plants in the world.
