LAUSD SUPERINTENDENT, ADMIRAL DAVID BREWER, DELIVERS ???1ST YEAR REPORT CARD???

As part of its ongoing Education Series, TOWN HALL LOS ANGELES welcomes Admiral David Brewer, Superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District on Thursday, November 15, 2007, at a breakfast address in the Omni Los Angeles Hotel. Angelenos have the opportunity to ask Brewer about his ???1st Year Report Card.

 

When discussing increasing graduation rates Brewer stated, ???We are working aggressively to reduce our dropout rate???By tapping into students' peer networks and enlisting widespread community support we are redoubling our efforts to ensure that every student graduates college-prepared and career-ready.???

Brewer was unanimously selected by the LAUSD Board of Education to become the 46th Superintendent. A retired Three-Star Vice Admiral, Brewer currently oversees the largest public works project in the US, a $19.3 billion voter-approved transformation for new school construction and to improve existing facilities.

LAUSD is comprised of over 800 schools, 77,000 employees, and operates a $7.5 billion budget. Brewer described transforming the organization accordingly, ???Changing the system will require moral fortitude and courage. But the bottom line is that failure is not an option.???
