CHAIRMAN OF THE SEC, CHRISTOPHER COX, ADDRESSES TOWN HALL LOS ANGELES
In 2007, Cox defended the SEC against accusations of leaning towards corporate interests and Wall Street. He said, ???If a business is investor-friendly, the SEC will be friendly to it. But anyone who seeks to drive a wedge between the interests of the business and the interests of the investors in that business will face a relentless and powerful adversary in the Securities and Exchange Commission.???
On Sarbanes-Oxley, Cox addressed critics of the law???s regulations saying, ???I don???t think, first of all, the sky is falling. Second, to the extent that anyone is telling us that the sky is falling, I think they???re at a minimum overstating things???There???s more opportunity to raise money and more varied pools of capital than ever before.???
Cox is the 28th Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. He was appointed by President Bush and was sworn in on August 3, 2005. Prior to his current position, Cox served 17 years as a congressman from
