CALIFORNIA ASSEMBLY SPEAKER NUNEZ CONVERSES WITH TOWN HALL LOS ANGELES

Friday, May 9, 2006, Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez (D - 46th District) addresses Town Hall Los Angeles at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel in downtown.

Núñez takes a leading role in a number of important issues confronting Californians.  Top among them is the $37.2 billion bond package on the November ballot - the largest public works projects in 40 years. The proposed bond measures finance roads, public transportation, levee repairs, schools, and affordable housing. Calling the bond proposal a “historic infrastructure package,” Núñez and Town Hall will discuss issues critical to the future of California.

When asked if Democrats would campaign for the infrastructure package with the Governor, Núñez said, “Absolutely, we’ll be campaigning together…Whatever [is] the most effective message to the voters, that’s the message we’re driving home.”

Núñez is an outspoken voice on many concerns close to Angelenos. On April 25, 2006, Núñez and the Assembly Democratic Caucus introduced Joint Resolution 51 calling on the President and Congress to pass “tough, smart, and comprehensive reform to fix our broken immigration system.”  Núñez is an essential ally of Mayor Villaraigosa’s education proposal to convene a “council of mayors” to oversee the LAUSD.  Asked to rate the chances of winning a Legislative vote on a scale of one to ten, Núñez responded, “Ten.”

Fabian Núñez was elected to the California State Assembly in 2002. On February 9, 2004, he was sworn in as the state’s 66th Speaker. Núñez was Government Affairs Director for the LAUSD from 2000 to 2002.  From 1996 to 2000, he served as Political Director of the LA County Federation of Labor.
