How will the USMCA shape the future of trade for the three countries? Join us on January 29, 2020, for a special discussion event with Consul General of Mexico Marcela Celorio and Consul General of Canada Zaib Shaikh. The consuls general will be giving us an overview of their respective governments views of the USMCA, as well as answering your questions on the topic.

On December 19, 2019, the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) cleared its biggest hurdle, passing the US House of Representatives by an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 385-41. Now, the US Senate is expected the formally ratify the deal in early 2020.

Ambassador Marcela Celorio began her mandate as Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles in June 2019. Prior to this post, she served as Consul General of Mexico in San Diego. Ms. Celorio was the first Diplomat in Residence from the Mexican Foreign Service at the American University in Washington, DC, and has served as Director of Nationality and Naturalization at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a position from which she helped promote the recognition of dual citizenship. A member of the Mexican Foreign Service since 1999, and with the rank of Ambassador since 2017, Ms. Celorio has worked with a variety of embassies around the world.

Zaib Shaikh began his mandate as Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles in December 2018. He is the Government of Canada???s senior representative in Southern California, Arizona and Nevada. He comes to the posting after an extensive career in the media and entertainment industries, having worked as an actor and producer in theater, film and television. Before his appointment in 2018, Mr. Shaikh served as the Film Commissioner and Director of Entertainment Industries for the City of Toronto. In that role, he oversaw and grew the city???s screen, music, live festival, sporting event and tourism sectors.
