  • Mosul and the Fall of the Caliphate
    October 3, 2019
    8:00 am - 9:30 am

James Verini spent nearly a year on the ground in Iraq reporting in and around Mosul, the crown jewel of the Islamic State. He arrived in the summer of 2016 to write about life in the jihadi regime as the battle of Mosul approached and stayed to cover the fighting. He will discuss covering what became, in the words of the Pentagon, ???the most significant urban combat since WWII, and provide glimpses into the lives of the Iraqis who fought to reclaim the city from the Caliphate. He will also discuss the politics, history, and religious traditions of Iraq, and how the wars waged in that country over the centuries by those in the east and the west have changed it forever

Verini’s new book They Will Have to Die Now: Mosul and the Fall of the Caliphate will be available for purchase at this event.
