Dr. Drew Altman, President and CEO of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation discussed perceptions of the Affordable Care Act, the realities, and the challenges ahead nationally and in California in his speech, "Will Obamacare Succeed?" on April 24th at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. The Kaiser Family Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization that provides the health care community and consumers with a non-partisan source of facts, information and analysis; it is not affiliated with Kaiser Permanente or Kaiser industries. Dr. Altman explained how to evaluate national ACA metrics and the enrollment efforts that are most effective (for the long-term uninsured, community-based enrollment was key).

"What are the real questions that we should be asking about the Affordable Care Act now? Probably the biggest one, I think it's the biggest one, is will the people who get coverage think it's affordable, will they think it's a good deal or not a good deal in this first year?...One of the things we learned...in that debate is it is not what us experts think about someone's policy, whether we think it's a good policy or bad policy, or what an actuary thinks. It's what they think."
