5/22/14 - Transcript - "Los Angeles at the Tipping Point: World Class City or the Next Detroit?

On April 29, 2014 at Town Hall Los Angeles, Los Angeles 2020 Commission Co-chair Austin Beutner and member David W. Fleming, in conversation with Jim Newton, Editor at Large, Los Angeles Times, discussed concrete measures to enhance transparency and accountability in City Hall and put Los Angeles on a path toward fiscal stability and renew job creation in the region. In January 2014, the Los Angeles 2020 Commission issued a dire assessment of the city???s issues and described LA as a ???city left behind in the 21st century. Three months later, the commission, comprised of prominent business, labor and civic leaders, released its ???A Time for Action plan which includes nine concrete initiatives to improve the city???s economy and restore Los Angeles to its luster. Their discussion on April 29th addressed why recommendations were made and how the community can continue the conversation.

If there were silver bullets, if there were this is going to solve poverty in our community, great, I think it might've been done, right????But it's been one way, and we're trying to stem that slide and bend the shape of the curve.
