12/9/13 - Transcript - Jeannine English, CPA, MBA, President-elect, AARP

Jeannine English, CPA, MBA, President-elect, AARP, spoke to Town Hall Los Angeles on Thursday, November 14, 2013. English's speech, "Life Reimagined: Optimism for Our Aging Society" discuss the challenges and opportunities Baby Boomers face as they enter a new life phase unlike their parents' retirement. Boomers are looking to age in place, live healthier and more productive lives, and often take on second or third careers. Technology will ease the process, but many seniors will still rely on social security, especially in California where 55% of seniors are economically vulnerable.

"Yes, the coming years will offer real possibilities for retirement and senior living experiences that for many will be almost nothing like those of the past. But in recent years, through the many methods we use to track the needs and wants of our members, we discovered that many who are in the position to benefit from these possibilities simply don't know where to begin. They've been asking for help to answer the question, what's next for me? And we believe the question of what's next for the boomers isn't simply a manner of personal fulfillment. It's a matter of national importance. It's about helping our largest, best-educated, healthiest, and longest-living generation to make the most of their great wealth of talent and experience to help create a better country for the generations that follow."
